Fertility Tests
For many couples around the world the moments spent trying to conceive a child are fraught with joy and anticipation. Sadly, there are just as many couples that have different emotions while trying to conceive. All too often they lose sight of the joy of the process with worries of a failure to achieve their goals for another month. The truth of the matter is that every woman will take a different amount of time in order to conceive. Some take longer than others and still others need to provide a little bit of a boost in order for Mother Nature to take control and get things properly in hand.
If you have been trying for more than a year to conceive without success, chances are that you are ready to begin seeking that little bit of help I mentioned above. The fact is however, that there are many options available to you that you may wish to consider. Before seeking outside intervention in your pregnancy quest you should try increasing your overall awareness of when your fertile times each month are and operate accordingly.
If you have gone through this process and found no effects in your ability to conceive you should then take your concerns to your OB/GYN. At this point in time he or she may or may not recommend utilizing the services of a fertility specialist. Your doctor will probably want you to go through a series of test and trials before recommending you go elsewhere for care, particularly if you have a long relationship with your doctor.
If you are serious about conceiving you will probably go through a wide panel of tests before any treatment really begins. Some of the tests that you will include testing for hormone levels such as: estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), free triiodothyronine (T3), free thyroxine (T4), luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone (P4), prolactin, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and testosterone among many others. In addition to these tests for hormone levels you will need to have your blood glucose levels tested, triglycerides, cholesterol level testing, and your spouse or partner will need to have a few tests of his own during the process.
Fertility treatments are highly invasive by their very nature. You will delve into many aspects of your personal live and your sexual life that you may feel as though you are on display. To some degree you will be. This is not to discourage you only to make you aware of the open book your life will become during your pursuit of fertility.
Of course all of the testing, poking, and prodding done during the fertility quest is good preparation for the continued poking and prodding that will take place once you've conceived. Somehow it seems less invasive when you know that there is a bundle of joy waiting on the other end of all these tests that are being performed. Remind yourself throughout the process and during each of your visits that you are hoping to create a legacy of the love you have for your partner more than anything. Believe it or not, too many people lose site of the reason they wanted a baby during the process of trying to create one.
