Relax through Yoga

yoga back stretchAs more women are waiting later in life to have children than has been the norm in days past we are finding that difficulties when it comes to conceiving are also on the rise. While there is no direct proof that advanced age is an indicator of infertility women trying to conceive later in life do tend to have a greater sense of urgency than those who make the effort in earlier years.

As a result, these women who are attempting to conceive without success are quite likely to seek medical intervention much more quickly than those who may feel they have more time to try conceiving without the intervention and expense of infertility specialists and treatment.

One thing that should be remembered is that trying month after month to conceive without success is a frustrating experience at the very least and can be extremely stressful as the months go by without any indication of success on the horizon. Stress builds and can be an enemy in and of itself to the process of fertility. One way that many women, particularly those in their thirties are finding to eliminate stress and work their minds and bodies is through yoga.

While yoga may not have made the list of recommendations for women trying to conceive ten or twenty years ago, the importance of stress reduction for the fertility process is becoming more and more evident. As a result, more and more doctors are urging infertile couples to try some rather unconventional methods of relaxation in order to assist them in their fertility goals.

Hobbies have long been recommended as a way of distracting the mind from the 'urgent need' to conceive a child. Yoga is a way not only to distract the mind but also bring fitness to the body in the process. By conditioning the mind and body to relax you are actually preparing your body for the process of delivery down the road and parenthood beyond that. Yoga is an outstanding outlet and hobby for anyone hoping to conceive for so many reasons.

It is most effective if both partners participate in the yoga exercises though one partner can go the yoga route alone. There are actually classes in fertility-focused yoga that are offered in many large cities around the country. If your city doesn't offer one, you may want to discuss with your physician whether or not he or she feels this is a wise course of action for you and find out where you might possibly find a DVD or video of the process.

While there are no claims that yoga alone can lead to fertility there is substantial evidence that finding an outlet or developing a method for relaxation can. If you are having difficulties conceiving and are beginning to feel serious pressure or stress as the result, perhaps, if nothing else, yoga can help you find a moment or two each day of mental clarity and peaceful insight. There really can't be too terribly much wrong with that.
